Sanctuary in the Jungle

Sanctuary in the Jungle is a criminal defense podcast exploring the vital role criminal defense attorneys play in our legal system.

Before there were courts, there was the mob. Disputes were handled with vengeance and immediate, emotional reaction. Today, Criminal courts should be a sanctuary for rational decision-making amidst our jungle-like world where emotion and intuition often drive judgment. Our decisions should use empathy and unconditional regard. They should be grounded in evidence and guided by enduring constitutional principles: the presumption of innocence, the right to counsel, and the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Defense attorneys safeguard these fair practices, upholding justice not only through legal process but through a deep recognition of human dignity.

Full Episodes

Through grounded conversations with defense attorneys and advocates, Sanctuary in the Jungle reveals the emotional realities of defense attorneys' work while reaffirming the values of justice, fairness, and humanity at the heart of the legal system.

Amidst a plethora of legal podcasts discussing case breakdowns and legal news, Sanctuary  offers a look into the lives and motivations of the lawyers themselves.

Social Media

Our production focuses on long form content meant to educate and inspire other criminal defense attorneys. Short form content, however, serves two great purposes:

1. video is the discovery tool that brings in new listeners.

2. converted listeners or not, we hope our theme of humanity inspires voters, jurors, and community members to better interact with our system.

Substack

Young, old, well practiced or new, there is always something for everyone to learn. Regular listeners (attorneys) are encouraged to subscribe to Sanctuary's Substack, offering in depth lessons on how to apply each episode to their daily practice in law.

Our Story

I am the daughter of two criminal defense attorneys who taught me early on the value of giving others the benefit of the doubt. My dad and I have always enjoyed conversations about philosophy, the purpose of the law, and how to improve our system. Working for him and his law firm was my first (and now longest) job that began when I was 16. It's now much clearer there will only be one lawyer between the two of us, but through his hosting and my producing, this podcast has become a passion for us both.

Through our shared love for good stories, human connection, and sincere content, we bring you this project.
